Charles Rennie Mackintosh was an extravagant architect who would design every element in a home. One of the many mediums he used in his artistic expression was stained glass. He would famously incorporated two very different artistic movements into one stained glass piece– the Mission Style and Art Nouveau periods. Both symmetry and asymmetry were featured seamlessly in one piece. One of his more well-known stained glass windows is known as the Glasgow rose. This beautiful floral stained glass piece featured pops of color within the rose itself on a very symmetric, leaded background that displayed asymmetrical line work. This stained glass style still continues to inspire modern-day stained glass artisans and remains a popular design for Dallas residents.
